Cashless Policy

Effective May 1, 2016

Effective May 1, 2016 in order to improve speed and expedite our customer service, Mahekal Beach Resort will become a “cashless” hotel.  This means the resort will no longer accept cash transactions in most restaurants and bars.  As always, we require a major credit card and identification upon check in.  Please see the important details regarding our new policy below:

1.  Which Credit Cards Does Mahekal Accept?

Credit Cards are required for reservations and to check in, with valid identification and  International Passport or Travelcard.  These are the major credit cards the resort accepts:  Visa, Master Card, American Express.

2.  What about currency exchange? 

The front desk will keep a small bank for small exchange services.  For larger exchange amounts, please visit a bank on Quinta Avenida during regular banking hours. 

3. What is the minimum daily amount someone would need to have available on credit?

500 MXN Per Person per each day. So for a 5 night stay 2,500 MXN or $138.89 USD (approximately).

4.  When will the unused deposit be returned to the guests’ card?

At checkout all unused credit is released however it may take 7-10 days for the credit to appear on your statement.

5.  Does Mahekal Beach Resort accept US Debit cards?  

Yes, we will apply the same incidentals policy as credit cards at check in (please see above) but we will charge the guaranteed amount as a payment against your guest room account and issue a corresponding receipt.  Any unused portion will be refunded in Mexican pesos.

6.  Are all restaurants and bars at the resort cashless?  

Yes, with the exception of Fuego Restaurante y Cantina.  Gratuities may still be offered in cash at your discretion.
