Health and Safety Practices
Mahekal Beach Resort is Reopening 10/1/20 and accepting reservations for the fall of 2020 and all of 2021.
Mahekal Beach Resort is reopening October 1, 2020. When we re-open, we will be operating within the guidelines of state and country restrictions, thus some amenities and services may be restricted, or have capacity limitations. We are currently accepting Reservations for fall, 2020 and all of 2021.
What is the status of reopening for Playa del Carmen?
On September 12th, 2020, the Governor of Quintana Roo announced that the entire state has a reduced risk of COVID-19 transmission as the epidemiological light was dropped from ‘orange' to ‘yellow'. This allows Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and the Riviera Maya to begin the next stage of tourism reopening which includes increased hotel capacities and the opening of archaeological tourist attractions.
As of September 13th, 2020, travelers were once again be able to visit the following archaeological zones:
- San Gervasio
Hotels, restaurants, historical sites, theme parks, golf courses and tourist services will now be able to operate at 60% capacity. Prior to the announcement tourism businesses had been limited to a maximum of 30%.
Is the beach open and accessible?
As of September 12th, 2020, beaches were reopened at 60% capacity. When we re-open on October 1, 2020, you will be able to enjoy the longest stretch of beach of Playa del Carmen –spanning 920 feet of pristine beach. Social distancing guidelines will be in place, as do limitations on gatherings.
What is open and closed in Playa del Carmen? Are stores open?
As of September 12th, when the state of Quintana Roo announced that the entire state had change the epidemiological light from ‘orange' to ‘yellow', services that impact tourism will be able to operate at an increased capacity of 60% including:
- Religious services
- Theaters and cinemas
- Shopping centers
- Department stores
- Real estate
- Beauty salons
Outdoor fitness clubs and facilities will be able to operate at 70% capacity and indoor gyms will be limited to 50% capacity to allow for social distancing.
The following business remain closed:
- Entertainment centers
Please note: Some business may have more limited hours of operation (i.e. Convenience Stores), and may also limit shoppers to one person from a family/group.
Are the swimming pools open?
When we re-open, Fuego Pool will be open and operating under a reduced load capacity as mandated by the county. We kindly ask our guests to cooperate with the posted capacity limits at the pool. Pool lounge chairs will be available and spaced out accordingly.
Are the hot tubs open?
We have decided to keep the hot tubs closed for the time being. Given the size, we feel it is better to limit these for now, but will continue to evaluate in the coming days.
Are pool towels available?
Yes! Pool towels are available from 9:00am to 5:00pm, daily. Towels will not be placed on pool/beach lounges, all towels must be stored in containers with a lid. We request that guests go to our towel stands for towels, and also, please help us limit contact, by returning them to the towel stand before you leave the pool or beach areas. The towel containers are cleaned and disinfect 2 times a day. The towel stands are disinfected at least every 2 hours
Is the Fitness Center open?
When we re-open, The Fitness Center will be open daily from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Guests must pre-register for a specific workout time in order to follow the 30% occupancy and social distancing regulations.
Will you offer housekeeping service?
We will service rooms daily with full housekeeping service following all state and county health and disinfecting protocols.
Can I purchase a day pass?
Day passes are not currently available. Due to the recent restrictions and reduced capacities, all resort amenities/resort access is for the exclusive use of our registered guests.
How far is town from Mahekal Beach Resort?
Mahekal Beach Resort is located near downtown in Playa del Carmen. Located at 38th St. North and the beach and a short 2 blocks from the famous 5th Avenue (Quinta Avenida).
Do you have Wi-Fi?
Mahekal offers complimentary fast WiFi service throughout the resort. WiFi is perfect for keeping in touch with your emails, uploading pictures of your vacation and listening to music.
Is it safe to walk into town?
Playa del Carmen is generally a safe tourist destination welcoming guests from all over the world, however, we advise taking precautions with money, jewelry, cell phones and other valuables.
Is there any loud music near Mahekal?
Mahekal offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere in a tropical setting. From time to time, there are festivals and special events held at off-site locations that may have loud music, typically during the daytime hours. If you are concerned about these events, please contact Guest Services at email@example.com.
Food & Beverage
Is there an all-inclusive option for the meal plan?
Currently, Mahekal only offers a Half-Board meal plan (Breakfast & Dinner or Lunch). You can exchange dinner for lunch, daily, through our guest services desk. For special packages consult our Reservations department at firstname.lastname@example.org. At certain times of the year, and only on select room types, we also offer a Bed and Breakfast packages. Please note: Gratuities and taxes are additional.
How much do beverages cost?
At Mahekal we offer a variety of drinks from mocktails (non-alcoholic) to our famous signature Margaritas and our selected wine list. Prices might vary depending on the drink and alcohol (Domestic versus International). We provide a daily happy hour from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in all bars at our hotel in Playa del Carmen. The price of beer and cocktails vary from $3.00 - $9.00 USD depending on the brand and ingredients during Happy Hour. Non-Happy Hour prices are slightly higher. Pricing is subject to change.
How is the quality of the wine at Mahekal Beach Resort?
Each of the wines we feature at the resort has been carefully selected by the Sommelier to compliment the meals and food creations. Our vision is to offer a selection of wines for all tastes. Many are highly rated by Wine Spectator, Robert Parker (RP) and Stephen Tanzer (ST).
Do you offer vegetarian menu options?
Mahekal offers an extensive menu to suit all tastes. If you have a food allergy or dietary restrictions, please inform our concierges email@example.com so we can better assist you.
Is dining at Fuego Restaurante y Cantina included in meal plan?
Guests of Mahekal Beach Resort can enjoy Breakfast at Fuego as part of their meal plan. For dinner, menu prices apply for Fuego, however, guests on the meal plan may use a $27.00 USD per person credit and a $16.00 USD credit for children ages 5 to 12; not applicable on beverages, towards the food portion cost of their meal. Please note: The peso conversion of the USD credits may change based on the current exchange rates. As always, dinner can be exchanged for lunch, daily. What’s the difference between the Ocean View room and Ocean View Palapa at your Playa del Carmen beach resort?
Ocean View Rooms are located on the ground floor. Ocean View Palapa can be an individual Bungalow or can be located on the first or second floor, but will always have a Palapa roof. Room location is subject to the hotel's availability and can not be guaranteed prior to arrival.
Can we reserve a particular room or bed type?
We do our very best to accommodate requests for specific rooms and bedding preferences (Kings or 2 Double Beds). Due to the arrival and departure schedules and room demand, reserving a specific room or bed type is not always possible. Therefore we cannot guarantee a specific room or bedding preference. We will do our very best to accommodate your wishes and to make your stay in our resort a relaxing and enjoyable one.
Do all of the rooms at Mahekal Beach Resort have a fridge?
Our rooms do not have mini fridges, however, we can provide one for your room based on hotel availability for $10.00 USD per day. Our Premium Room Categories (Penthouses , Oceanfronts and Beach Houses), do have mini-fridges included in the room. Also, La Residencia, our largest room, has an apartment size/full size refrigerator in the kitchen area.
Do the rooms have air conditioning?
All guest rooms have been recently renovated and all rooms have brand new air conditioners with remote controls. In addition, all rooms have ceiling fans.
What type of watersports are available at your Playa del Carmen resort?
Playa del Carmen and the surrounding area offer a variety of water sports such as Wave-runners, Paddle Boards, and Jet Ski rentals. For further information contact our concierge at firstname.lastname@example.org. If water is what you crave, the Dive Center has dive programs for all ages. From shallow dive trips, to snorkeling trips filled with colorful fish, to cenote exploration, to deep water full day dives, our on-site dive center can help make your underwater experience both magical and memorable.
Do you have bikes available for rent?
Playa del Carmen is a bike-friendly town and Mahekal has wonderful bicycles for our guests. Bikes are complimentary as part of the Resort fee; and are subject to availability.
Do you have kid-friendly activities?
While we do not have a dedicated "Kid's Club", we offer many activities catering to children. Kids will enjoy Ping Pong & Pool Tables at Agave Bar. Children also love the zero entry pool in the Caribe Section of the hotel (Itzi Pool) and our ceramic painting classes, located on-site near Agave Bar. Our dive center offers beginning dive lessons. The "Bubble Maker" course is offered to children 8 years and older and introduces kids to the wonderful water world around Playa del Carmen.
How do we get to Mahekal Beach Resort from the airport?
We offer an excellent private transfer service that provides clean, comfortable and secure round-trip and one-way transfers in vans identified with the Mahekal logo. Please contact our concierge at email@example.com and they will arrange all the details.
Do you recommend renting a car to drive to the hotel?
Once you are at the resort you won't need a car, however, there are many car rental options to choose from at the airport, or we can assist with arranging a rental drop-off at the resort from the Playa del Carmen offices of the rental car companies. Parking is limited at the resort and is only available on the street (with a cost of $.45 cents per hour). Parking is not secured and is at the renter's risk.
Is there a shuttle?
Due to our privileged location in downtown, we do not offer local shuttle service. Transportation arrangements can be made for all of the attractions in the Riviera Maya through our concierge.
Is there laundry available for guests?
Mahekal does not provide self-service laundromats for guests. We do offer laundry service through an external service with standard delivery or express service. Please contact the Guest Experience desk for more information
Does your Playa del Carmen beach resort have babysitting services?
For your convenience, Mahekal offers on-call babysitting services. Reservations can be made through our concierge at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Does the resort accept cash?
Mahekal Beach Resort does accept cash transactions in most restaurants and bars; we strongly recommend using the Room Charge option instead. We recommend this mainly because of our rigorous Health and Safety standards and protocols during this extraordinary time. Hence a major credit card and identification are required for check-in.
